Progression of testing based on Test Steps

TestFlo (already quite well done) and Xray (just started doing it in cloud but basic at the moment) are competiters who are offering the possibility to track progress at the test steps level (not only at the test case level). This allow us to track progress for each test case from a test steps perspective and by having it at the release cycle level, it allows us to know the work effort needed remaining.

As a... Test Specialist/Consultant
I would like... to have the option to track testing progression based on test steps results for each test case or test cycle.
So that I... can have a better understanding of the work effort needed to complete testing for the upcoming release.

While we’re not currently working on this yet, this is definitely on our radar, thanks for the input. We can’t share an ETA on when it’ll be delivered for now, but we'll keep you posted here in the ideas portal.

    Hi Cristiano,

by progresssion of testing, I mean as a testing team lead, I would like to know the percentage of test steps completed for each test cases (number of test steps passed/number of steps in the test case) and the percentage of the steps passed for all test cases in a release cycle (total number of steps passed for all test cases in cycle/total number of test steps for all the test cases in a cycle).

So if I have a release with 2 cycles in it. Cycle A has 3 test cases and each of them have 3 test steps and 1 test case has one step passed. Cycle B has 2 test cases with each 2 steps but both are unexecuted.

As a testing team lead, I want to see the progress of Cycle A like this from a test steps progress : 11% (1 of 9) of steps completed for Cycle A. For Cycle B, it would show 0% (0 of 4) of steps completed.

If it could be integrated in the Test execution or a new gadget I think it would be nice since we could follow the progression of testing in terms of test cases completed and steps completed. Unfortunatly, I don't think I can post screenshot from other softwares here.

However, there's public information here about it in a open discussion about test steps reporting vs Zephyr. Please have a look. There's 2 competitors doing it officially one more advanced than the other.

    Hello Sebastien,

Can you give more details on what you mean by "progression of testing". Do you mean a new report or gadget? Please provide more details here so we can understand the use case.
